Looking at a world where many products involve microbial mechanisms Animate Ltd protect modified bacteria by patent. the light producing photobacteria live in a complex ecosystem. for the consumer it is forbidden to extract the bacteria to secure the companies property rights. the security system let the lightbulb’s bacteria die if the nutrition is used up.
A protagonist hacks the lightbulb to keep the ecosystems and their life forms alive and extend the product's lifespans.
